How To Decorate A Tree With Outdoor Lighting For Christmas

If you have a tree in your yard or garden then why not create a little Christmas holiday magic by decorating it with lights! The easiest way to apply the Christmas lights to your tree is by beginning at the bottom and then follow these instructions:

Before you get up a ladder and start throwing lights over your tree, you'll want to take a step back and actually test that the lights are in good condition and fully working. This is especially important if they are lights that you've owned for a few years and have been stored away in your loft or in a damp garage. Also, it should go without saying that the lights you use must be suitable for outdoors use.

Lights Outdoor

Assuming the lights are in good working order, next figure out how you will get the power to the tree. Make sure you use a weatherproof extension chord and secure it in position near to the tree. Be sure to take safety precautions with the chord to avoid the risk of tripping.

Now, you can start stringing the lights onto the tree starting at the bottom. It won't be necessary to cover every single branch, as that would require a lot of lights, but do try to achieve an even coverage so that the overall shape of the tree is covered.

If needed, add further lighting strings to complete the tree, being sure to make each connection safe and waterproof.

Using more than 3 sets of lights with one extension chord is not recommended as there could be a higher risk of an electrical fault or fire occurring. It is advisable to use a circuit breaker to reduce the risk of damage in the event of a power surge or short circuit.

If you are looking to add some Christmas lighting magic to smaller plants or shrubbery then consider using net lighting. This is generally easier to use when covering small bushes or plants and gives a uniform coverage which makes it simple to get great results.

Although it may not appeal to you at first, there are lots of good reasons to know how to make arts and crafts out of outdoor Christmas lights. The holidays are not just about you, but also your family. Along with family comes the opportunities to amuse younger children. You might also be from a family that has lots of individuals that are totally different. Besides board games, often crafting projects are a solution for family fun. Having a few tricks up your sleeves that involve outdoor Christmas lights can be extremely handy for days where you need to entertain them.

Crafting Traditions for The Holidays

Lights Outdoor

In the past, most Christmas presents were handmade. As a matter of fact, in some families they still work very hard to maintain this tradition. It wasn't until the late 1800s that it became common to buy Christmas presents. For this reason, it can be a fun idea to make Christmas about making gifts for each other. Outdoor Christmas lights are a fun way to craft and are easy enough for small children to work with.

Crafting with Short Strings of Lights

Shorter strings of outdoor Christmas lights are perfect for decorating smaller objects. After they're finished, they can be used as outdoor decorations. Some popular ideas for shorter strands of outdoor Christmas lights are:

o Making snowmen decorations
o Making a wreath
o Making a message or shape (for example, spelling out Merry Christmas)

More Complicated Crafts

There was a popular children's toy in the 1970s that specifically dealt with lights. You can imitate this on a large scale as an exciting outdoor Christmas lights craft project. Basically, you will need a small drill, tons of Christmas lights, a hot glue gun, and a very large piece of plywood.

First, you'll need to paint the plywood. The second step will be to draw whatever you want to outline with lights. The next step is to drill holes that are far enough away from each other so the structure is not compromised. Put the lights through the holes and keep them in place with the hot glue. The end result is a personalized outdoor decoration.

Easy Decorations

Of course, everyone wants something elegant, beautiful, and unique for their outdoor home decorations during the Christmas season. An easy way to craft something that everyone will love is to make a wreath for the front door. This simply involves having some sort of round frame to attach the outdoor Christmas lights to. Of course, you might want to arrange and rearrange until you get what you want, but the idea is simple.

Save Money This Christmas With Outdoor Solar Christmas Lights

The new trend in Christmas lighting is LED Christmas lights. LED Christmas lights are becoming popular indoors, because they don't get hot like the old tree lights. LED lights also don't use very much electricity, almost none at all, and they don't ever burnout.

Solar powered Christmas lights are LED lights powered by a solar panel. Solar lights come with a stake you stick in the ground and on top of the to and a stake is it rechargeable battery pack with a solar panel on top of that. The sun shines on solar panel it keeps the batteries charged the power of the batteries is enough to light the LED string of lights.

Lights Outdoor

One nice thing about solar powered Christmas lights is that they have a photocell that detects when it's dark out and they turn themselves on all by themselves.

Since these lights run off of rechargeable batteries, how bright they get, and how long will stay on, depends on how well the batteries are charged. If you place the solar collector panel in a well lit area on a bright sunny day that should be enough to recharge the batteries. With fully charged batteries your life should stay on for 10 to 15 hours. If you have a string of overcast days with not too much sunlight the batteries can become depleted and your life will be dimmer and won't stay on as long.

Another thing to consider when buying solar powered outdoor Christmas lights is the climate that you live. December is usually a very snowy time of the year for most people and you will have to keep the solar panels free from snow or the batteries wont charge.

LED Christmas lights are fairly new product so you may be slightly limited on your choices. From what I've seen on some popular Internet sites this should not be too much problem. I've seen solar Christmas wreaths, white solar rope lights, white icicle lights, white net lights, and a variety of colored lights to choose from. One neat product I saw was a solar window candle.

So if you're interested in solar powered Christmas lights do some research on the Internet. You'll probably have to buy them online also because not too many stores are stocked with a good variety are of these type of lights. Be aware of the drawbacks solar powered lights depend on sunlight.
